Why Letting Go of Rigid Expectations Matters

Embracing the present moment is a powerful practice.

Whatever action you are engaged in, approach it without any expectations or preconceived outcomes. Focus entirely on the task at hand. Your effort should center on being mindful in your actions, regardless of what you are doing. Once you master this technique, even cooking can become a form of meditation, as you remain fully present with yourself. When you are not present, your mind tends to wander either into the past or the future. By directing your awareness and giving 100% attention to the process of what you are doing, you open the door to transformation. The same principle applies to meditation. Often, when meditating, you may seek to recreate a prior experience or chase an ideal you’ve read or heard about. This desire can lead to projecting expectations, which may prevent you from being present and appreciating the greater experience available to you.
